A MAN from Cumbria has raised £680 for two local animal charities after running the Carlisle 10k... in memory of his dog.

James Cooper took on the 10k event through the border city on Sunday, March 23, to raise money for Eden Animal Rescue, which helps sick or abandoned animals to lead better, healthier lives and Morgan's Rescue which focuses on rehoming animals young and old so they live happier lives.

James recently lost one of his dogs to meningitis and decided to run the 10K in her memory and raise money to help other animals lead better lives as well.

He completed last month's event in an impressive 44.49 and placed 42nd out of 478 runners, while his JustGiving page brought in £680 in total, meaning both charities would receive £340.

On Facebook, Eden Animal Rescue thanked James, writing: "James we wanted to share our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible effort in fundraising and raising £340 for Eden Animal Rescue.

"Your decision to run the Carlisle 10K in memory of your beloved dog, who tragically succumbed to meningitis, speaks volumes about your compassionate nature.

"By dedicating your run to honour her memory and raise funds to support other animals in need, you are truly making a difference in the lives of countless furry friends.

"Your generosity in splitting the donations between Eden Animal Rescue and Morgan's Rescue demonstrates your commitment to ensuring that sick, abandoned, and aging animals receive the care and love they deserve."
