A CARLISLE family has turned their love for car boot sale bargains into a local indoor event.

Claire Hodgson and David Woakes, alongside their three children, are preparing to hold their latest indoor tabletop sale which will see people from across the city come together to sell their wares.

This sale is due to take place this Saturday, March 23 at St James Church in Denton Holme, with it set to be only the second event that Claire and David has organised following their successful debut in November 2023, which had around 20 sellers in attendance.

Ahead of the event, Claire explained why her family wanted to host a new indoor tabletop sale in Carlisle.

She said: "We like going to charity shops and car boot sales but we seemed to be going further afield as there is only really Hexham and Dumfries that have got really big ones.

"There is one in Carlisle but we like the 'lazy day' ones with later start times like 10am in Hexham and Dumfries.

"We saw people from Carlisle at these and thought: 'why don't we try to do a couple and see where it goes from there?'"

After the success of their first indoor tabletop event at the end of 2023 and ahead of their return to Denton Holme, Claire also revealed the family's plans for expansion and their vision for bringing more accessible car boot sale events to Carlisle over the approaching summer months.

She said: "Everyone loves a bargain. What's that saying? One man's trash is another man's treasure. We are hoping to grow it in the future.

"We could potentially look for somewhere in or near Carlisle that has a grass area or big car park so we can do some in the summer and do proper car boot ones."
