A HOTEL guest was violently assaulted by her partner during a Lake District getaway to try and rekindle their relationship.

Calum Ramsey, 26, and his partner had been staying at the Lodore Falls in Keswick on March 2 and had been drinking cocktails, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the pair had met up with someone who the defendant knows from work. They had been drinking in a hotel room for about half an hour when Ramsey had become ‘aggressive’ and ‘cocky’.

The victim had taken herself back to the room they were staying in and locked the door behind her. There were knocks on the door but she ignored them.

About 10 minutes later, she could see Ramsey outside the room with the manager of the hotel.

Ramsey entered the room and the victim said it was clear that he was ‘irritated’ she hadn’t let him in. He was laying on the bed, calling her names.

She told Ramsey she would go and get the hotel manager. This ‘got his back up’ and she ran to the door to try and get out.

Ramsey pulled her back, swung her round and punched her to the face. The victim could feel blood coming out of her nose. She believed she had then fallen unconscious and felt another hit to the face – which could have been a kick - while she was on the floor.

The victim said she was trying to get up and leave. She was on her hands and knees and Ramsey was ‘mocking’ her.

She managed to leave the room and ran to get the hotel manager. She was then taken to another room.

Ms Fee said there had been previous domestic incidents between Ramsey and the woman. It had been hoped they would be able to rekindle their relationship but this was not the case.

Ramsey, of Dartington Close, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

John Cooper, defending, said: “It’s a difficult one. She talks about potential kicking. She can’t say if she was kicked or not.

“He has very little recollection. They were drinking cocktails in the spa area before.”

Magistrates adjourned the case until March 25 to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.

Ramsey was granted bail with conditions to live and sleep at a named address each night and not to contact the victim or go to a named street.
