WITH brighter days of spring fast approaching, the Lakeland Motor Museum has announced the date for its ever popular Springtime Classic Drive and Ride in Day.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 4 and is always a great day out on your doorstep.

You don't have to own a classic vehicle to go along – everyone is welcome to pop over and explore the many classic vehicles attending, take a visit to the museum or grab some refreshments at the riverside Cafe Ambio.

The Classic Drive and Ride in Day is a chance for owners of classic cars, trucks, vans and motorbikes, as well as more recent hot hatches, superminis and high-performance sports cars, to take their vehicles along. One of the vehicles on the day will secure the coveted Springtime Stunner Trophy.

The event always attracts a good mix of iconic styles from the 20th century, ranging from motoring classics to more recent sports and high-performance cars.

The museum, housed in a converted mill in the heart of the Lake District at Backbarrow, has a collection of over 30,000 exhibits including over 140 classic cars and motorbikes, which trace the development of road transport throughout the twentieth century.

News and Star:
There are period shop displays, a 1930s garage and a World War One display. Also, in their own unique building, there are special displays honouring the historic speed record exploits of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell. Highlights include full sized replicas of the 1935 Blue Bird car and the legendary 1967 jet hydroplane Bluebird K7.

For children, a day out there is made even more fun by the museum quiz which has been designed especially for youngsters. There are questions about fire engines, hot air balloons and bubble cars to name just a few so it’s an ideal way to spend a morning or afternoon.

The museum quiz involves 23 clues, questions and directions which send youngsters on an adventure around the Backbarrow attraction – and a small gift is given to every child who attempts the challenge.

The Lakeland Motor Museum Quiz is designed to appeal to youngsters of all ages – with easier “A” questions for the youngest and “B” questions which require extra thinking or reading.

Copies of the quiz are available free of charge at the museum reception but parents and carers can also download a blank copy before their visit from www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk.

The Spring Classic Drive and Ride in Day runs between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, May 4.
