With only days left before the start of a magnificent sound and light show in Carlisle, event organiser Cumberland Council is recommending visitors get their tickets quick.

The 'Crown and Coronation' event, which involves projecting the grandeur of the Crown Jewels onto some of Carlisle's most iconic buildings, is showing signs of becoming a sell-out with tickets selling fast.

Carlisle is the only city in the North of England slated to host this event, which has been made possible by the support of Cumberland Council's Destination Management team.

'Crown and Coronation', a project produced with the tandem workings of Historic Royal Palaces and Luxmuralis, intends to take audiences on an illuminating journey into the history of coronations through immersive visual displays and stirring soundscapes.

Carlisle Cathedral and Carlisle Castle are among the numerous prominent landmarks and locations chosen for these displays.

Parallel to the primary event, a kaleidoscope of colours will light up other landmarks within Carlisle, including the Citadels, Court Square, Crown & Mitre Hotel, the Civic Centre, the former Hoopers' building, and the Guildhall.News and Star: Carlisle's Citadels will also be lighting upCarlisle's Citadels will also be lighting up (Image: Cumberland Council)

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council's executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: "We are delighted to welcome the Historic Royal Palaces and Luxmuralis event to Carlisle as the first event within this new programme.

"This is a real coup for the city as, so far, it is the northernmost venue announced to host the light and sound spectacular.

"Get your tickets soon to avoid disappointment."

'Crown and Coronation' was birthed through the collaboration between the Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that takes care of the Tower of London, and Luxmuralis, as part of an artistic collaboration between artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper.

Charles Farris, public historian for the history of the monarchy at Historic Royal Palaces, said: "The Crown Jewels hold deep religious, historic, and cultural significance, and we are really excited to be bringing this magnificent collection to people around the UK following a historic Coronation year.

"Crown and Coronation will immerse visitors in the rich history of the British monarchy, Coronations, and the Crown Jewels."

The event aims to present more than 1,000 years of history to visitors, chronicling the reigns of monarchs such as William the Conqueror, Elizabeth I, and Queen Victoria.

The event is due to take place across three nights from February 15 to 17, during time slots between 6.30pm and 9pm.

Peter Walker, sculptor and artist at Luxmuralis, said: “We are delighted to be working with Historic Royal Palaces and Cumberland Council on this spectacular light show, which will transform some of the UK’s most remarkable buildings into an articulating and evolving display of historic images, awash with light and accompanied by compositions which chart changes to music over the period.”

Tickets are on sale for £8.50 for adults, £7.50 for children aged between five and 16, and free of charge for children under five.

Tickets are available on www.skiddle.com or directly from the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre.
