Cumbrian hooker Jamie Blamire has been called up by England as they build up to the Six Nations next month.

The Seaton star has been named in Steve Borthwick's training camp in Spain.

It comes ahead of the Six Nations opener against Italy on February 3.

Newcastle Falcons player Blamire gets the chance to impress Carlisle-born Borthwick and push his claims to add to his seven international caps to date.

Newcastle's interim head coach Micky Ward told his club's website: “I’m delighted for Jamie to get the call-up because he’s been working really hard here at the club, and I know he’ll give a good account of himself out in Spain.

“It’s been a big month for him with having his first child and reaching his 100 appearance milestone for the Falcons, and everyone here is really happy for him that he’s back in the England picture.”

Blamire, 26, joins Max Ojomah and Will Muir in being added to the squad, after the withdrawal through injury of Oscar Beard, Ollie Lawrence and Luke Cowan-Dickie from the 36-man squad in Girona.
