Popular British band The Beat are set to perform in Carlisle later this year.

The soul, reggae, pop and punk band formed in Birmingham in 1978 and continue to wow fans across the world with their unique blend of sounds.

Now featuring Ranking Jnr, the son of former band member Ranking Roger, they perform all the classic hits in their dynamic live shows.

The band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, The Beat became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement.

By Christmas of 1979, The Beat were riding high in the UK charts with their first single, a remake of the classic Smokey Robinson tune Tears of a Clown.

Over the course of the next five years The Beat toured relentlessly and released three studio albums. I Just Can’t Stop It and Wh’appen both reached number three in the UK album charts.

The band toured the world with artists as David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and The Specials, to name but a few.

The Beat reformed in 2006 and have been playing to sold-out crowds ever since.

They are set to perform at Carlisle's Old Fire Station on Friday, June 7 at 8pm, with support set to be announced soon.

Tickets cost £20 and are available to buy online.
