COUNCILLORS will get an update on plans to protect the health of residents in north Cumbria next week.

Members of Cumberland Council's health and wellbeing board are due to meet at the Civic Centre in Carlisle from 10.30am on Friday, December 8.

They will debate Cumberland Council’s Health Protection Plan 2023/24 which outlines progress made in a number of healthcare priority areas.

These areas include:

  • NHS immunisations and vaccinations;
  • NHS screening programmes;
  • Communicable disease control (CDC);
  • Emergency planning and response (EPRR);
  • Public protection;
  • Healthcare acquired infections (HCAIs) & anti-microbial resistance (AMR).

The report states: "This is the first health protection plan for Cumberland Council.

"This plan is linked to the Health and Wellbeing Strategy in that health protection, early detection and intervention is one of the four key themes of the strategy.

"The health protection plan sets out in more detail how that theme is to be taken forward."

It is recommended that members of the board note the contents of the report.
