Teenage Carlisle boxing star John Joe Carrigan is back in action for England this weekend.

The European junior champion is heading to the Republic of Ireland for his latest international outing.

Carrigan, from Border City Amateur Boxing Club, will take on Alex Noonan in the Ireland v England Dual-Nations event.

The young Cumbrian is competing in the 70kg category at Dungarvan Sports Centre, County Waterford.

For Carrigan, 16, it is a latest outing in an England vest following his memorable summer victory in the EUBC Junior Championships in Romania.

On his England debut, the Carlisle boxer won the European title by defeating Albania’s Koci Amhed.

It earned the Todhills teenager, from Border City Amateur Boxing Club, the coveted gold medal, continuing his impressive progress after a series of domestic titles in recent years earned him his England chance.

Another young Carlisle boxer has claimed a regional title, meanwhile.

Carlisle Villa’s Marc Haughan defeated Kieran McDaid from Manchester to become north west regional champion in the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Boxing Championships.
