Carlisle's bare-knuckle boxing champion Danny Christie has a role in a new movie about a notorious Newcastle hardman.

The Currock fighter plays boxer Mad Mickey Shaw in the film 'A New Breed of Criminal'.

Christie's part involves a fight scene where he transfers his bare-knuckle skills - which have earned him the UK light-heavyweight title - to the small screen.

The Carlisle man has shared the scene on his YouTube channel with the film having been released on DVD earlier this month.

The film's script was written by north east actor and writer Steve Wraith, who plays the lead part of reformed career criminal Stephen Sayers.

The movie's blurb says it is: "Inspired by Stephen Sayers' rise from the backstreets of Newcastle's West End to the top of the criminal ladder and the authorities subsequent attempt to bring him crashing back down again."

It is Christie's first part in a movie, following his rise to the top of the British bare-knuckle boxing scene in recent times.

The Currock boxer has won his first three fights in the BKFC scene, victories over Terry Brazier and Darren Godfrey followed by victory over Anthony Holmes which earned him the British title.

Christie is set for his fourth BKFC fight in Newcastle this autumn, which he hopes will help further his bid to have a shot at the world title which is currently held by American boxer Lorenzo Hunt.
