Carlisle’s European boxing champion John Joe Carrigan has won another title back on home soil.
The teenager claimed victory in the Barum Box Cup in Devon.
It is the second consecutive year that Carrigan, from Border City Amateur Boxing Club, has won the title.
This time the Todhills boxer took on Lee Corcoran from London club Cricklewood ABC in Sunday’s final.
“John Joe boxed to his high standards, and the referee stopped the bout in the second round,” said Border City coach Ian Archibald.
It saw Carrigan earn another gold medal after his victory over Findlay Lloyd last year.
And it enabled the young Cumbrian to maintain his positive progress this year after his memorable European victory back in July.
On his boxing debut for England, the 16-year-old won the 70kg final in the EUBC Junior Championships in Romania.
After making impressive progress to the final, he went on to claim a unanimous victory over Albania’s Koci Amhed to land the title.
