At the end of the month, the popular historical attraction Muncaster Castle will be hosting a Medieval Festival.

This will be the first time that Muncaster has hosted an event like this on such a large scale.

It will take place for nine days, starting over the bank holiday weekend and continuing throughout the week.

Ewan Frost-Pennington of Muncaster Castle said: "We're really excited to be going all out with our Medieval Muncaster theme, all the staff and hopefully most of the people coming will be dressed in medieval clothing.

"We'll be having three battles a day where people get involved with them, we'll have archery, mechanized jousting, a dragon trail where people have to try and find the dragon, we'll have reenactors here, we'll have warrior training, it's going to be a whole day that's jam-packed.

"We've held Fool Festivals in the past, and we're going to have fools again who'll do walk-around acts and do entertainment for the kids and adults.

"We'll also have a medieval tavern where you can get beer and listen to live music so it's a proper festival which will span over nine days.

"For me, the Halloween Festival has become super popular in the local area, we get 10,000 people to the Halloween Festival over nine days, so that's what I'm trying to do by emulating that.

"Medieval Muncaster feels very different to normal Muncaster, whereas some of our festivals have been on a slightly smaller scale.

"So that is what we're going to do, we'll take it very seriously and treat it like the Halloween event.

"My favourite movie is A Knight's Tale, starring Heath Ledger, it combines modern rock music with medieval so I want to emulate that kind of thing.

"We're hoping that it'll be really fun and we'd really like it if people come and check it out."
