JAMES Street in Carlisle has been closed this evening following a vehicle fire at the petrol station.

The road was closed from Victoria Viaduct to Rome Street at around 5.30pm and Cumbria Police asked members of the public to avoid the area if possible.

Emergency services were called to the scene.

By 6pm the fire was out and traffic was once again moving freely with no queues.
