A CARLISLE man caught drink driving more than twice the legal limit has been banned from the road for three years and six months.

Georges Youssef Feghali, 55, of Eden Park Crescent, admitted driving his Land Rover Discovery at Burgh By Sands while over the legal alcohol limited on September 1.

The magistrates' court in Carlisle heard yesterday that he had 86 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Prosecutor John Moran said the defendant crashed into a dry stone wall. The owner of the property called the police.

Feghali's defence lawyer Chris Toms said he had a brain haemorrhage after the incident and is suffering from the affects. "His memory of the incident is obviously affected," said Mr Toms. "He remembers having a couple of drinks before going out."

The court heard he was previously disqualified for a drink driving conviction in December 2015. District judge Gerald Chalk imposed a 42-month disqualification and Feghali was not offered a course to reduce the length of his ban. He was fined £300 and must pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
