KESWICK Mountain Rescue Team has had its 100th call out of the year.

It comes after a busy day on Sunday when the team completed three rescues in the same day.

In one case a woman had fallen 100ft from Sharp Edge on Blencathra. Following a complex rescue she was winched to safety by the Coastguard helicopter and, thankfully, wasn't seriously injured.

Soon after, the team received reports of a 71-year-old man with chest pain who was on the summit of nearby Carrock Fell.

A spokesman for Keswick MRT said: "As the team were already out on Sharp Edge and the potential seriousness of his condition, GNAAS flew straight to the scene from helping at the Sharp Edge and dealt with this incident."

The Great North Air Ambulance has been called to Blencathra along with the Coastguard rescue helicopter.

The 100th call out came at 2.43pm on Monday and involved an 82-year-old woman who had slipped and injured her arm while walking near New Bridge, Rosthwaite.

Two vehicles of team members drove to Rosthwaite but on arrival found her walking into the village with some passers by who offered to drive her to Keswick Hospital. The team returned to base.
