A CRAFT fair at a historic ruin near Longtown has been so successful another has already been planned.

Kirklinton Hall welcomed scores of visitors this week as more than 40 local traders set up shop for the first time.

It was a opportunity for people to visit the hall out of season and a chance for crafters to display their work in a unique setting. Kirklinton closed for the season on September 30 and will reopen again on weekdays and Sundays from April 21,

The current fair is not over yet but has been such a success that it is set to return between March 30 and April 7.

Organiser Sarah Till said: “It has been absolutely fantastic. It started on Saturday and it has gone really well. Saturday and Sunday were absolutely heaving. We did really well and took more than £1,000 on both days.

“It’s the first time we have done it here but we will be doing another one – it has been such a success.”

Sarah, who also runs a weekly indoor market at Brampton’s Moot Hall, said many of the traders involved wanted the event to be held again. “Everybody has just loved it. It’s good for us and it’s good for Kirklinton,” she said.

Manager Lisa Cullen added: “The hall is fast becoming a premier wedding and event venue and is available to hire for the weekend. People enjoy the blank canvas this venue offers, taking full advantage to let their imaginations run riot.”

The fair is open tomorrow and Sunday, between 10am and 4pm.
