Wind turbine can be built in Carlisle garden

A Carlisle man has been given the go-ahead to erect a wind turbine in his garden.

Howard Mace, of Brunstock Close, Lowry Hill, applied to Carlisle City Council for planning permission for a six-blade turbine on a green, metal frame.

It will stand 14ft high, with a blade diameter of 3ft, and supply electricity to his house.

Four neighbours raised concerns about its size, loss of view and noise pollution.

But a report attached to the application claims any noise will be “barely audible”.

Planning officers concluded: “In overall terms it is considered that the size of the turbine is acceptable and the impact on neighbouring properties and the surrounding area will be minimal.”
