WE shared the news that BBC Countryfile presenters visited the Lake District to take on the 'UK's most dramatic road'  - and spoke to those who live and work along the route.

In February, Hardknott Pass was named by JMW Solicitors to be one of the most dangerous roads in the UK.

It has earned its fearsome reputation due to its series of hairpin bends, high risk of ice on the road and wayward motorists.

Here's what readers thought.

Steven Hamilton said: "Driven this road many times without any issues," and Robert Lee said: "Drove over in the 1970s in a Fiat 500 with three lads and their camping gear."

Paul H Pluckrose said he had driven Hardknott Pass "a few times both in my own vehicle and the works van. Great drive".

Alan Relph said: "It's okay in a modern decent car. It was hair-raising in a 1955 Austin A30 with little power and not-so-clever brakes."

Buchanan John added: "First did this road in 1975 driving a Morris 1300, been along loads of times since."

David Pennington said: "We had a school contract and used to go over there five days a week, all good fun."

Pamela Dewhurst said the Lake District is a "beautiful part of the world and a scenic drive".

One web user said it "was an enjoyable programme".
