Midfielder Nicky Adams has been selected in the Professional Footballers’ Association League Two Team of the Year.

Adams joined Carlisle United last May from Northampton and has impressed in his debut season with Keith Curle’s team.

He made his first appearance this month in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Stevenage following a hamstring injury as he came off the substitutes’ bench.

The votes for the team were provided by PFA members from 100 clubs from the Premier League, Football League and Women’s Super League.

Speaking about his inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year, Adams said on United's website: “I feel absolutely honoured to be named in the Team of the Year, and especially because it’s voted for by your peers.

“Thanks to everyone who voted for me and I have to say a special thank you to my team-mates, the gaffer and all the staff at Carlisle United because I wouldn’t have had this without them.”

Also included in the PFA League Two Team of the Year are Blackpool’s Kelvin Mellor, Portsmouth defenders Christian Burgess and Enda Stevens, Cambridge midfielder Luke Berry, with Luton’s Danny Hylton and Doncaster’s John Marquis named as the two strikers.

Meanwhile, Brighton’s Cumbrian striker Glenn Murray missed out on the Championship Team of the Year, with Dwight Gayle and Chris Wood named as the two forwards ahead of the Maryport-born frontman who has helped to guide the Seagulls to Premier League promotion.
