Midfielder Joe McKee has left Carlisle United by mutual consent and joined Falkirk.

The Scot had his Blues contract cancelled just seven months into his Brunton Park stay earlier today.

And hours after his Carlisle departure was confirmed, McKee, 24, was announced as a new Falkirk signing.

The former Morton man joined United last summer but made only eight appearances for Keith Curle's side.

Manager Curle said the form of other midfielders had made it difficult for McKee to force his way into regular first-team contention.

"He's been a victim of the success the team has enjoyed so far this season," Curle said on United's website.

"He has an excellent attitude and I fully admit that he didn't get the opportunity that his application warranted but, again, that was down to the fact that we have players playing well in his position.

"He was particularly unfortunate when he picked up an injury at the time when he would have been used, but he's been a credit to himself with his professionalism and conduct."

"It goes without saying that we wish Joe the very best as he moves on to his next challenge."

Falkirk manager Peter Houston was delighted to get a deal for the midfield man over the line.

"Joe is a target I have had in mind for some time and we have worked extremely hard throughout the day to get this one over the line," he told the Bairns' website.

"I believe I am adding both strength and quality to the squad with the signing of Joe having watched him in various matches over recent years.

β€œIt is a deal that I believe will benefit of great benefit to both ourselves and Joe, I look forward to working with him over the next few months.”
