Keith Curle praised the impact of Carlisle United's new signings as they made an early impression during their defeat to Wycombe.

Striker Cole Stockton scored his first Blues goal in his second appearance since heading south of the border from Hearts.

Canadian Kris Twardek has also made an impressive start to life with United, while experienced midfielder Jamal Campbell-Ryce put in an assured performance on his debut, coming on for centre-back Clint Hill at half-time.

Blues boss Curle praised the performance of the trio after Saturday's 4-3 loss.

"Cole Stockton's goal, excellent. Kris Twardek's work-rate, exceptional," he said.

"Jamal came on and settled us down, got a rhythm to our play, landed on second balls in good areas, and got that impetus.

"Our first goal came from a quality ball in from Jamal.

"Too many balls prior to that were hitting the first man. It shows when you put quality balls into the opposition's box, you've got a chance of scoring and creating goals."

On Stockton's goal which came as he steered a James Brown free-kick past Scott Brown, Curle added: "Cole's goal was a typical Cole Stockton goal - what I call a No.9 goal, a great header with good control, from a good delivery in.

"Jamal has an air of quality and understanding, and confidence that will spread and breed.

"Kris Twardek's energy levels, willingness, work ethic - excellent, I still think there's more to come from all those three, and from Ashley Nadesan as well."

Wycombe, meanwhile, yesterday confirmed they had submitted an appeal to The Football Association relating to the red card shown to Luke O’Nien in the game.

O’Nien was dismissed by referee Carl Boyeson as he was adjudged to have denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball.

The Chairboys say the claim will be heard by a Regulatory Commission this afternoon.
