Kevin Nolan believes his Notts County players will be relishing the chance to return to action against Carlisle United.

The fourth-placed Magpies will be aiming to respond after back-to-back defeats tonight (7.45pm), while the Cumbrians will be hoping to close the 10-point gap between themselves and the play-offs.

County striker Mason Bennett will not be involved at Meadow Lane. He came off in the early stages of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Barnet with a hamstring injury that will rule the 21-year-old out “for weeks”.

Asked if it was a good thing for his side to have a midweek fixture, County boss Nolan said to BBC Radio Nottingham : “It’s probably best for them [the players], otherwise they would have been in for a horrible week, whereas probably now they are only going to be in for a horrible 48 hours.”

Blues midfielder Luke Joyce has a groin injury and Danny Grainger also missed Saturday’s game.

Goalkeeper Adam Collin and Shaun Brisley are among Notts County’s former Carlisle contingent, while Blues defender Gary Liddle and midfielder Jamal Campbell-Ryce are former Magpies players.
