Jamie Devitt has triggered a contract extension which will keep him at Carlisle United next season.

And fellow midfielder Mike Jones has also triggered a clause that enables him to negotiate terms on a further year at Brunton Park.

Devitt, 27, who has been nominated for both the Sky Bet and PFA player of the month awards, became the second player automatically to gain a contract extension this week, after Gary Liddle.

At his press conference on Thursday afternoon, meanwhile, Curle revealed that Jones was the third player to meet a clause in his current deal.

Rather than an automatic extension, the manager said that will allow the 30-year-old to discuss an improved deal for the 2018/19 season.

As a minimum, Curle said, the clause meant Jones would be offered the same terms as he is currently on.

On Devitt's extension, Curle said: "At the minute we're seeing the best of Jamie Devitt.

"He had a sticky start [with us] and wasn't happy with his general output, but he's now found his range, is enjoying his football and the football club, and going out being able to express himself in areas he knows can cause damage."

On Liddle, the Blues boss said: "[Another] player who had a slowish start, and there was slight disgruntlement with some of the supporters, but when eventually we were able to get him into his favoured position of centre-back, himself and Clint Hill formed a formidable partnership that saw us become solid, robust, with a little bit of creativity coming from the back as well."

And on Jones' clause, meanwhile, Curle said: "While some of the other players automatically get a contract extension for 12 months on the same terms, in Mike's case he's able to negotiate a contract on no less terms.

"It means the club is open to negotiate a pay rise or incentives on no less terms.

"The worst [outcome] is that he would get a contract offer on the same terms as he's on. If the club offered him a contract on less money, he would be entitled to walk away., [so he is] guaranteed another year minimum on the same terms."

Curle said United have no new injury worries ahead of Saturday's trip to Exeter, with Tom Miller and Kelvin Etuhu still sidelined along with long-term absentees Nicky Adams and Jason Kennedy.
