Former Manchester United defender Charlie Scott is the latest trialist to link up with Carlisle United.

The 20-year-old - who played alongside England star Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford - featured for the Blues in Tuesday's 3-1 friendly defeat at Barrow.

Scott played 75 minutes in the game at Holker Street as a right-sided centre-half as manager John Sheridan continued his search for new faces.

Carlisle's manager said: "He's been in Man Utd's Under-23s, and has been there for six or seven years.

"He only came in [on Monday]. He's a bit short fitness-wise, but he was pushed into the game [at Barrow]."

Sheridan plans to speak to both Scott and fellow trialist Lewis Walters - who played the first half at Barrow - about whether they will get a longer stint with the Blues.

The versatile Scott, who can also feature in midfield and at right-back, is available after being released by Man Utd this summer.

He had been a regular in their Under-23 side and was previously an Under-18 team-mate of Rashford, Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and west Cumbrian former Carlisle academy goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Scott, Rashford and Tuanzebe were reportedly team-mates at the Premier League giants from Under-11 stage.

Scott, from Stoke, had a loan spell last season at Hamilton Academical, where he made two first-team appearances.

He was on trial with Sheffield United earlier this year.

On both Scott and Walters, Sheridan added: "I'll talk to the trialists, I'll have word with them and I'll see what's best for all parties."
