Carlisle United have been handed an exciting home tie against Sunderland.

In the second round of the Carabao Cup, the Blues will welcome the Black Cats to Brunton Park this month.

"Sunderland are a fantastic football club and we all have to look forward to hosting them," Blues boss Keith Curle said to United's website.

"They are a Premier League club in every way, other than their current status, and I'm sure they'll be working hard to put that right.

"They have a new manager [Simon Grayson] and a new management regime who will be demanding very high standards and I have no doubt that they'll come to us determined to do things properly."

The second-round draw was made following Sunderland's 1-0 win over Bury tonight which was secured by George Honeyman who scored the only goal of the game.

Meanwhile, the Cumbrians booked their spot in the second round against the Championship outfit, relegated from the Premier League last term, on Tuesday after a 2-1 extra-time win over League One side Fleetwood.

Striker Shaun Miller gave the Blues the lead before Fleetwood equalised through Jordy Hiwula.

But Tom Miller came up with the decisive goal in extra-time to earn the Blues, what could turn out to be, a lucrative tie.

The game will be played on the week beginning August 21, with the exact date set to be confirmed.
