Carlisle United striker Charlie Wyke is in the running to be named League Two player of the month.

The in-form hitman has made the shortlist on the back of bagging six goals in just four games.

His impressive haul included a hat-trick against Mansefield that sent the Blues to the top of the league.

Judges in the Sky Bet accolade hailed him as a player who “comes alive in the box”, also flagging up two headers that he bagged.

“As well as his goals, his improved link-up play has also impressed,” they said.

The others in the running are Grimsby Town striker Omar Bogle, Doncaster Rovers’ Chelsea loanee Jordan Houghton and Wycombe Wanderers defender Aaron Pierre. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Eyebrows had been raised when Wyke was not on the shortlist for a separate player of the month award run by the PFA.
