Carlisle United have been handed a trip to Fleetwood Town - and a reunion with Kyle Dempsey - in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues will face the League One club at their Highbury Stadium in the first week of the new campaign.

It will see United come up against Maryport midfielder Dempsey for the first time since he left Brunton Park in 2015.

After joining Huddersfield, he spent last season on loan at Fleetwood before joining Uwe Rosler's club permanently this summer.

It is the first season under the League Cup's new sponsor, with the draw held in Bangkok where Carabao are based.

The draw descended into farce when Charlton Athletic were drawn twice, the Addicks mistakenly handed games against both Exeter and Cheltenham.

EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey then failed to spot the error when he recapped the draw at the end of the presentation.

United's trip to Fleetwood will be played in the week starting Tuesday, August 8.

It will be only the third meeting between the clubs.

The Blues faced the Cod Army in the Checkatrade Trophy last season, winning 4-2 at Brunton Park.

Their only previous visit to Highbury resulted in a 2-0 defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2013.
