Bradford are believed to be giving serious consideration to a move for Carlisle United's top scorer Charlie Wyke.

The News & Star understands the League One side are weighing up the Blues frontman with just a week left in the transfer window.

No bid has so far been tabled for the 24-year-old, who has fired 17 goals so far this season.

And the Blues have declined to comment on whether there has been any dialogue between the two clubs.

But the News & Star understands the Valley Parade club's interest in Wyke is credible, with German striker Anton Fink also on their radar.

Bradford - whose head of recruitment is ex-Carlisle manager Greg Abbott - are in the market for a new striker with James Hanson heading to Sheffield United.

Any possible deal would depend on whether Stuart McCall's club are prepared to trigger a release clause understood to be in Wyke's deal.

Carlisle have not commented publicly on the existence of such a clause but the relevant figure is believed to be less than the £400,000 reported elsewhere.

McCall yesterday described links with Wyke and Chemnitzer FC striker Fink as "pure speculation".

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds , he added that he would never comment on players who were currently attached to other clubs.

McCall said he wanted to bring "a couple" of players in before next Tuesday's deadline.

United's transfer-listed trio of Mark Ellis, Shaun Brisley and Joe McKee continued training with United yesterday, meanwhile.

Boss Keith Curle gave defenders Ellis and Brisley permission to speak to a National League club.

It is understood there is the prospect of at least one of the duo leaving Brunton Park before the weekend.
