Carlisle Utd closing in on ex-Everton man Danny Cadamarteri

Carlisle United are today hoping to make significant progress on their next summer signing – with Huddersfield’s Danny Cadamarteri firmly in their sights.
News & Star Sport understands that the experienced forward is now a clear target for the Cumbrians.
And though United are remaining tight-lipped on their chances of signing Cadamarteri, it is believed they are hoping for developments soon.
The 32-year-old former Everton man, who was released by the promoted Terriers at the end of last season, appeals to boss Greg Abbott due to his experience and versatility.
And the Cumbrians are optimistic they can seal a deal which would see Cadamarteri become their second recruit of the summer, after the recent addition of defender Mike Edwards. Abbott recently revealed that he had verbally agreed a contract with a target, who was due to visit Brunton Park for a medical during June.
The United manager said he hoped for progress on the signing once the player returned from holiday.
Without naming Cadamarteri, the Blues boss said of his target: “He knows the game, has been around the game quite a bit, has got plenty of experience and is a good guy who fills the void we’ve not had for a while.”
Cadamarteri recently returned from a foreign break and on Twitter this week hinted he would be keen on a move to the Blues. Asked by a fan on the social networking site if he would consider joining Carlisle, Cadamarteri replied: “Great club, wouldn’t turn the opportunity down if it came along ;-).”
It is, though, understood that the former England Under-21 international has attracted other interest since he left the Galpharm Stadium and a deal with the Blues is not yet certain.
Abbott and managing director John Nixon are both currently on holiday but United are pushing on with their recruitment plans after losing several first-team stars.
The departures of Francois Zoko, Tom Taiwo and Lubo Michalik – plus continued uncertainty over JP McGovern’s future – has left gaps in the squad to be filled. And with Abbott having done the groundwork with Cadamarteri it is hoped a new face could even be unveiled before the boss returns to the club.
