Carlisle Utd boss: Notts County defeat will not derail play-off bid

Greg Abbott today insisted Carlisle United’s setback at Notts County would not derail their play-off bid and said: We won’t give this up cheaply.
The Blues are three points adrift of the top six with an inferior goal difference after Saturday's 2-0 defeat.
But Abbott maintained the difference between Carlisle and their rivals was “minimal” as he banks on United's strong home home form to get them back on track.
The Blues are unbeaten in 12 on home soil – in contrast to their away fortunes, with three straight defeats on their travels and just one win in nine.
Manager Abbott said: “We are going to try and keep this alive right to the wire.
“Given the state of things at the club, where we are compared to others, I think it is a fantastic achievement.
“We need to keep driving the players on and keep believing. We're not going to give this up cheaply.”
United's form on the road is a growing concern and has left them reliant on their strength at Brunton Park, where Rochdale and Bury visit in the next five days.
“Win those two and the season is bang-on alive,” the manager added.
“There was nothing in Saturday's game – the key is goals. You have to put your chances away and we didn't do that.
“We had far more chances than Notts County but we lost the game 2-0.”
Magpies manager Keith Curle said: “It was a big day against a team that has been up there for a long time. Four wins and four clean sheets is comic book stuff for me.”

Have your say
My first game of the season and I'm normally an optimist. But we were poor.
First 20 minutes we looked good and if we madden put his chance away the game would have been very different.
Chantler was very good although I think he should have done better on the first goal. Simek needs to sort it out, twice now (other one at brentford) we have let in goals from crosses going over his head to an unmarkeed player behind him.
Was surprised greg took madden off he looked sharp. In contrast to zoko who is so lazy. If zoko doesn't perform he needs to be taken off, I don't care if he is classed as a gamechanger he was poor.
I'm a season ticket holder and I think Greg is doing a good job with limited resources. Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledges that he still has things to learn so Greg & Kav are not going to be any different. The time to get rid of them is when they think they know it all.
And yes, the manager does carry the can when things go wrong (ask AVB!) but the reality is that once the players cross the white line they need to get on with the job they've been given. There's only so much you can do from the technical area.
