Abbott wants positive response from Carlisle Utd players

Carlisle United are aiming to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat to Crawley and the frustration of Tuesday’s postponed game at Bury.

The midweek washout at Gigg Lane has given Abbott extra time to weigh up Walsall, where he will be without injured winger JP McGovern.

Abbott wants a positive result at the Bank’s Stadium (kick-off 3pm) before his team returns to Brunton Park on Sunday for Peter Murphy’s testimonial.

“We have to embrace the good things that happen in football because we have enough of the rubbish to deal with a lot of the time,” Abbott said. “Hopefully a good result at Walsall and then paying tribute to Peter can make it a perfect weekend.”

Dave Symington, Kallum Higginbotham and Liam Noble are competing to replace McGovern, who has suffered a reaction to the double hernia operation he underwent in the summer.

United have yet to reveal how long the experienced Scot will be sidelined for. Mike Edwards and Brad Potts are also pushing for a recall in defence.
