Defender Tom Miller has today signed a new two-year deal with Carlisle United.

The out-of-contract player had been weighing up his options since the end of last season.

But the 25-year-old today committed his future to the Brunton Park club after extended talks.

Ex-Lincoln man Miller also rejoined the squad for pre-season at Creighton this morning having not been involved for the first two days of training last week.

Manager Keith Curle had said Miller had been considering "numerous" other offers, while the deal was also delayed while the defender was abroad on holiday.

But the Blues boss is now delighted to have secured the services of the versatile defender, who made 35 appearances and scored five goals in his first season with United last term.

Curle said: "It's been a wrangle, and rightly so.

"The offer was made, and there were negotiations with Tom and his agent, a bit of to and fro, but everything's now agreed.

"I met Tom this morning once the finances were done - then it was about the personality that came back into the building.

"I wanted to be sure Tom was coming back in with that hunger and desire he had last summer, when he came to the club with a point to prove.

"He's in a very good frame of mind, and knows there will be competition for his place. He knows if his standards aren't right, it can be a long time here for him.

"But I'm confident we can continue his progression and he can be a big part in us being successful."

Curle, meanwhile, said negotiations were continuing with Miller's fellow right-back Alex McQueen.

The former Spurs player is considering a contract offer from the Blues.

Curle said he expected an update soon but was not yet setting McQueen a deadline.

The Blues manager said: "Where we left it with Alex was he was having a meeting with his parents and representatives to have a discussion about the offer we made him.

"We're waiting for them to get back to us about what the next step is.

"With every offer there's room for negotiation. Contact will be made again to follow that up.

"There'll be a time where Alex will be needing to start training and preparing for pre-season, and either signing for somebody else and we can claim compensation, or agreeing to the terms offered here.

"We're not at the stage yet where we need to draw a line in the sand."
