CARLISLE United have announced the signing of former York City captain Russell Penn on a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who left League Two's bottom side at the end of last season, will have the option of a further year at Brunton Park.
Penn made a total of 37 appearances for the relegated side last term scoring three goals.
United's manager Keith Curle described his new signing as a mix between current midfielders Jason Kennedy and Luke Joyce.
The club's head of Recruitment Lee Dykes said: “He’s another player we’ve watched for a while and he ticks a lot of good boxes.
"He’s a vastly experienced midfielder and very good professional who knows the level inside out. When you’re looking for competition for places he will certainly provide that."
The Blues have also announced their new shirt sponsor for the 2016/17 season.
Carlisle-based building and surfacing firm DSD Construction have stepped forward to sponsor the club, initially for one year.
The family-run firm's logo will appear on all first team and replica shirts and training kit for the coming season.
United legend Chris Lumsdon is currently employed by DSD as training manager.
