Carlisle United's medical team have been saluted as the best in League Two.

The Blues were awarded the prestigious team of the year accolade at the Football Medical Association conference.

It is recognition for long-serving physio Neil Dalton, fitness coach Lee Fearn and academy physio Jordan Beech.

Both Fearn and Beech collected the trophy at the conference at the Radisson Blu hotel at East Midlands Airport after United pipped Northampton and Bristol Rovers to the award.

Carlisle's medical team had been nominated by counterparts at other clubs, with FMA chief executive Eamonn Salmon saying many members were impressed with how they coped after last December's floods.

United also saluted the trio for the way they delivered impressive results in such a challenging season.

A Blues spokesman said: "The work done by Neil Dalton, Lee Fearn and Jordan Beech, in conjunction with the coaching staff at all levels, brought the lowest injury rate the club has seen for almost a decade.

"This was achieved against a backdrop of upheaval when they lost almost all of their equipment and facilities in the floods.

"Despite the difficulties, they embraced new ideas and implemented new procedures which ultimately proved to be of great benefit in what became a season of improvement in all areas, not least the medical department.

"We are delighted that those efforts have been recognised by the FMA and we congratulate Neil, Lee and Jordan for a well-deserved accolade."
