After his all-action debut against Everton last weekend, loan star Brandon Comley says he won't be afraid to get involved in the "mucky" side of the game as he bids to help Carlisle United's play-off push.

The QPR midfielder, who joined United on a month's loan in January, was handed his first professional start by manager Keith Curle in the 3-0 FA Cup fourth round defeat to the Toffees last Sunday.

And 20-year-old Comley put in a committed, combative display in front of over 17,000 supporters on his Blues bow before being withdrawn just after the hour mark.

Accrington Stanley, fifth in League Two, are the visitors tomorrow (Brunton Park, 3pm) and Comley - who made a solitary substitute appearance for the R's in the Premier League last season - says he is willing to "mix it" with the fourth tier's finest as Curle's men ready themselves for a hectic month of action.

“Especially with this league, it’s not always pass, pass, pass. You do have to be able to mix your game up and be able to play and do other things that you need to do in the game," he said.

“Sometimes it’s a little bit long [ball], but I don’t think that Carlisle like to play like that. I think we like to play good football but obviously you might have to be able to mix it with teams that are going long, so you have to be able to do both.

“I think that, personally, I can do that, because I don’t mind doing the mucky side of it and then playing."

Comley is in line for a first league start against John Coleman's Stanley side tomorrow.

And the Islington-born battler wants to prove that Curle, a former QPR coach, is right to have placed his trust in the youngster - and says he could be the man to replace Gary Dicker in midfield, with the Irishman having left for Kilmarnock on Sunday.

“I felt I did quite well [against Everton], to be honest. I felt I got my tackles in, did a couple of good passes and just went about my game and tried to do what I could for the team.

“I’d say I’m a hard-tackling player. I like to keep it simple but I can play as well. I’m predominantly a defensive player, but I can tackle and play.

“When the manager just puts you in like that, it just makes you feel confident in yourself and know that someone believes in you.

“It’s a good thing. I just want to repay his faith."

Comley played against United as a second-half substitute in his parent club's 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat at Loftus Road back in August.

And he says seeing Carlisle up close in that game helped his decision to make the temporary move up north easier and he hasn't ruled out extending his stay further.

“That’s one of the things that gave me a buzz when I told that I could come up here and get a loan, because I’ve seen how they play, I’ve seen that they like to play good football and that’s the type of game that I like to play," said Comley.

“I’m just trying to get into the first team. Now I’ve come out on loan, I’m trying to get some experience and then go back there and see what I can do there but my first focus is doing well for Carlisle.

“It would be a great opportunity for me to stay here and play some games and it’s a really nice club. Everyone up here is welcoming so I’d love to stay up here."
