Carlisle United have today made former Oldham midfielder Mike Jones their seventh summer signing.

The 28-year-old signed a two-year deal at Brunton Park the day before the squad returns for pre-season training.

Jones, who was released by the Latics at the end of last season, is the latest new face as Keith Curle continues his recruitment drive for the 2016/17 campaign.

And he joins central midfield ranks which have already been bolstered this summer by the arrivals of Joe McKee, Russell Penn and Jamie Devitt.

Jones also follows fellow new recruits Nicky Adams, Reggie Lambe and Shaun Miller into the club, with Curle eyeing further additions.

United have been tracking Jones for most of the close-season and wrapped up a deal for the former Bury and Sheffield Wednesday man this afternoon.

Jones, who played alongside winger Adams at Crawley, said he was delighted to make the move.

He said: "At the end of the season I met up with Keith and Lee [Dykes], spoke to the staff here, and I loved what they had to say.

"It's taken a bit longer to get done than I'd have liked but I'm really excited to finally be here.

"The manager has been a big plus as to why I've come here, how he wants me and the team to play and where he sees this football club going.

"I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe we could get promoted."

Jones made 37 appearances for Oldham last season, scoring three goals.
