Whitehaven-born full-back Gregg McNally says that joining Bradford Bulls is one of the best decisions that he has ever made.

The 27-year-old former Haven, Huddersfield Giants and Leigh Centurions player signed to come to Odsal in January and confessed: “I am loving every minute of it.”

The Irish international added: “I could not have asked for a better group of boys.

“They have put their arms round me, embraced me and helped me and made it easier for me to do what I want to do and encouraged that.

“Some other coaches previously have tried to stop me from doing what I do, but John (Kear) says that I live and die by my decisions, which is nice.

“However, I didn’t have a pre-season so I know there is a lot more to come.”

McNally will be hoping to make the trip back to West Cumbria this weekend when Bradford take on Workington Town at Derwent Park on Sunday, ko 3pm.

But there is a question mark hanging over his appearance after he picked up a quad injury in the win over Hunslet on Monday in the Challenge Cup.

Coach John Kear said: "We have to let it settle down before we can assess it, but he is basically a doubt for Workington and Coventry, and then we have Warrington in the Challenge Cup, so I am sure that he will be highlighting it on his calendar as the date to return."

Previously McNally had ignited the moment of the match in Good Friday’s 30-12 home win over Oldham, running the ball back from near his line before Ethan Ryan took over and gave Dane Chisholm a scoring pass to complete a thrilling try.

The full back said: “I got to 30 (metres) and there was a long way to go and Ethan was there in support and Dane, like the good half-back that he is, also.”

However, the cheers were almost as loud when the Bulls prevented Oldham from scoring by defending six successive sets just before half-time.

McNally said: “We enjoy defending, we embrace it and there was a bit of a celebration with the lads.

“I was just praying for an error, saying ‘Please get ourselves off this line, please knock on’, but the boys dug really deep in the first half and the second.”

He added: “We questioned ourselves after (beating) Hunslet (in the league) because that is not the way that Bradford Bulls want to play.

“Conditions were slow against Oldham, but the first 40 minutes were the best we have played this year.

“We kicked long and chased hard and it took it out of them in the end.

“It was good game management for Joe (Keyes) to keep taking those two points and keep the scoreboard ticking over and keep us on top.”

McNally also praised the Bulls’ supporters, with the attendance of 4,036 bettering two crowds that day in the Betfred Super League.

He said: “It is like a home game every week and the Bulls fans make it a bit of a nightmare for away players. It makes for a carnival atmosphere and it makes an away game like a home game .”
