Lynn Hopkins, who became a hugely popular player for the club during his five years at the club, is to be a guest speaker in the Tom Mitchell Lounge on Friday, June 22.
An evening with Hopkins is being put on by the Town vice-president’s who have a successful record of providing nostalgic nights at the club.
A proud Welshman, Hopkins joined Town in 1979 and it was soon apparent that he was a bit special, particularly through his skill in landing goals.
He took over the mantle carried so successfully during the 1970s by Iain McCorquodale and became an equally prolific goal-kicker for the club.
His best season was 1981/82 when he kicked 186 goals, beating the old club record by 48, with 438 points for the season a staggering 132 more than the previous club best, and scoring in all but one of Town’s games that season.
He played a total of 99 games for Town, scoring 44 tries, 365 goals and putting over four drop-goals to amass a total of 872 points.
Prior to joining Town, Hopkins played rugby union for Neath and De La Salle College, where he was the leading points scorer for three seasons.
He won one cap for Wales while at Town in the 37-7 defeat by Australia at Ninian Park, Cardiff.
In 1984, he left for a brief stay with the new club Kent Invicta where he clocked up another 140 points for them.
But when he hung up his boots, he came back to live and work in the Workington area.
The cost for this event is £15 and includes a meal.
