Star forward Dave Allen was given his marching orders for disputing a decision too fiercely.
Meanwhile, Haven also had to overcome a first half penalty count of 9-2 against.
The opening 15 minutes were dire with neither side retaining the ball amid a catalogue of handling errors. And when try scoring looked difficult, Rovers decided to take the lead via a Jamie Foster penalty goal.
Fev played even worse after the sending off of Allen, which was originally a yellow card for dissent over a disputed knock on.
But after he continued to berate the referee, that card was changed to red. Haven continued their rearguard action amid the barrage of penalties against them but their defence held firm, although Jordan Baldwinson came close before being held up over.
Finally, the visitors were awarded their first penalty after six against them and Liam Carberry was held up over.
But on the next play powerhouse prop Anthony Walker stretched over after being held short.
Louis Jouffret converted and 12-man Haven held an unlikely lead which they almost took to the interval.
Kyle Briggs spoiled their party just before the break when he entered the line out wide to step through off Robbie Ward’s pass.
Foster converted to give Rovers a tight and extremely fortunate 8-6 interval lead.
Haven’s troubles mounted just before and after they break as they lost Ugo Perez and Jouffret with leg injuries.
At one time they were down to 14 fit men when John Paul Brocklebank left the field with a head injury.
They continued to hold firm, however, until the 53rd minute when Jordan Lilley twisted over from close range for Foster to convert, but they came bouncing back when Dion’s overhead cut-out pass put Jordan Burns clear on halfway for an individual 50 metre touchdown.
Ed Chamberlain converted in Jouffret’s absence to restore the gap back to two.
Finally the extra man advantage paid dividends for Fev as they took hold of the game with three late tries.
First Jack Ormondroyd raced through off Channing’s pass then Darrell Griffin barged over from close range before Foster stretched out for the line after the ball was moved along the line.
Foster missed the last conversion to ruin a 100 per cent completion record and Fev were home and dry.
Haven, however, had the last word as Jessie Joe Parker went 20 metres through a non-existent defence after Aiye brought them close with a fine mid-field break.
The defiant 12 can hold their heads high and every man tackled his heart out.
Ryan Duffy led an indomitable front row that more than matched the highly rated Featherstone pack.
