Cumbria's top amateur rugby league clubs will be broadcast live on TV from next month.

The Kingstone Press National Conference League has secured a two year deal with Rugby AM and free-to-air sports channel FreeSports.

More than 30 games from the Premier Division, Division One, Two and Three will be shown throughout the 2018 season.

This includes Cumbria's Premier Division teams - Egremont Rangers, Kells and Wath Brow Hornets.

Trevor Hunt, National Conference League chairman, said: "This a terrific deal for the league, and gives us a thrilling opportunity to not only showcase the quality of rugby league played at this top community level, but also to showcase the clubs and facilities on offer from all four of our divisions, for aspiring young rugby league players of the future."

The coverage gets started with the clash between Wigan St. Patricks and league champions, Thatto Heath Crusaders of St. Helens, on Saturday, March 3, kick off 4.30pm.

Then, Cumbria's first involvement will be on March 10, when Egremont Rangers visit Rochdale Mayfield.

The derby clash between Wath Brow Hornets and Kells could be broadcast on March 17, depending on Challenge Cup fixtures.

On Saturday, June 2, the channel will show Kells' home tie against Egremont before showing the reverse fixture on Saturday, September 1.

Hunt said: "This will not only bring much needed publicity to the grass roots of the sport, but also hopefully pack fans into the club houses both were the game is being played and in other League clubs to watch their rivals play."

The games will be broadcast each Saturday on FreeSports channel 424 on Sky, as well as channel 95 on all Freeview and Free-sat boxes.

Rugby AM was founded by Alex Simmons and is co-owned by Leeds Rhinos star Jamie Jones-Buchanan.

Jones-Buchanan said: "The community game was the bedrock and seed from which my professional career sprouted.

"Without the unsung heroes of the community clubs we simply wouldn't have the opportunities afforded to us by the professional game."
