Carlisle United will be hoping for the luck of the draw in more than one respect next week.

One club will receive a bye in Monday night’s FA Cup first round draw.

That is because of the demise of Bury, leaving an odd number of clubs entering the draw.

The final club left in the hat will automatically go through to the second round and collect £36,000 prize money.

United are ball number nine in the draw, which is being shown live on BBC Two from 7.10pm.

The draw will be conducted by Karen Carney and Jermaine Beckford at the home ground of either Royston Town or Maldon & Tiptree, who face each other in Saturday's fourth qualifying round.

Some 32 non-league teams will be in the hat along with 47 from Leagues One and Two.

A Football Association statement said: "Due to Bury FC’s removal from the English Football League and subsequently the Emirates FA Cup, there will be an odd number of clubs entering the draw.

"As a result, the final club left in the draw, that isn’t drawn to play in a tie in the first round, will receive an automatic bye to the second round and will also receive the prize fund payment applicable for the first round."

The first round is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, November 9.

United have, meanwhile, been drawn at home against Northbank in the second round of the Cumberland Cup.

It follows last weekend's 5-1 win for the holders against Cockermouth in the first round.
