Steven Pressley says he has an extra incentive to beat Rochdale in Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie – because it will secure him an extra member of staff.

Carlisle’s manager says he will be allowed to bring in an analyst if United get past the League One side at Spotland and secure a money-spinning tie against a top club in the third round.

Pressley said: “I made a deal with David [Holdsworth, director of football] that if we win at Rochdale, and we get through to the next round and get a good draw, then I’ll get an analyst.

“I’ll be able to sleep then! Just now I’m working til 12 at night every day, [and] the media team are my analysts just now – it’s hard going.

“I know the supporters will be thinking, ‘we want another striker!’ But they don’t need to stay up to 12 at night doing all the work.

“That’s what I want. The players have got to try and get us through and hopefully after that I can get a good night’s sleep.”

United won 3-0 at Barnsley in the first round to book Tuesday's tie against Brian Barry-Murphy's Dale, who are 13th in the third tier.

Leading Premier League clubs come into the draw at the third round stage.
