Carlisle United are now pursuing two loan striker options in the transfer market, manager Steven Pressley says.

The Blues are still waiting on a definite answer from one Championship player they have been trailing for some time.

Pressley says he is having to wait longer than anticipated for clarity on that situation.

In the meantime, a second frontman has come back on the agenda despite United initially believing he was set to go elsewhere.

On the first target, Pressley said: “I was told I would get [clarity] on Friday, then I was pushed back and told Monday, then they said to me I need to wait a little bit longer.

“But another player, who was a main target for us, has come back on the radar and again, with that player, I was told I’d hopefully get an answer [on Tuesday], but this is why I don’t want to give a definite date [to fans], because every time I’ve been told something it shifts.

“We now have a couple of options we’re pursuing, and we’ll keep trying.”

Pressley said a striker is expected to be the final signing he makes before the transfer window closes for lower-league clubs on September 2.

The manager said it is important to continue to be patient in order to get the right player through the door.

He said: “I’ve said this before – we might have 55 games this season [and] I think it will be worth the wait.”
