Workington Reds suffered last-minute agony at the hands of Robbie Savage's Macclesfield.
Mark Fell's side were on course for a battling point against the runaway Northern Premier League Premier Division leaders.
But Macclesfield scored in the 90th minute through Luke Duffy to earn a 1-0 victory at Borough Park.
It sent Savage's visitors 15 points clear at the top, Reds in 12th after the end of their three-game unbeaten run.
Workington had earlier gone agonisingly close to a goal when in-form Steven Rigg hit the post with 16 minutes remaining.
Earlier, home keeper Alex Mitchell had done well to deny ex-Barrow man John Rooney, with Efe Ambrose going close for Reds.
The action unfolded in front of a crowd of 988 at Borough Park, with Reds back on home soil again next weekend against Blyth Spartans.
It was an unbeaten weekend for Cumbria's three Northern League Division One clubs, meanwhile.
There were wins for Penrith and Kendal Town and a draw for Carlisle City.
Darren Edmondson's Penrith picked up three points with a 2-0 home win over Marske United.
Andy Murray-Jones shot the Bonny Blues ahead with 15 minutes remaining and Luke Hunter sealed the victory late on.
The win sees Penrith 13th ahead of Tuesday's trip to Newcastle Benfield.
Carlisle City earned a battling point with a 0-0 draw at Guisborough Town.
The draw ended a four-game losing run in the league for Dan Kirkup's 16th-placed side.
Next for City is their trip to Crook Town next Saturday in the FA Vase third round, the Cumbrians aiming to reach the fourth round for the first time in their history.
Kendal, meanwhile, are tenth in the table after an emphatic 4-0 win over Birtley Town, with Josh Winder, Finley Lynch, James Bailey and Ryan Winder all on target for Jimmy Marshall's side, who next face Ryton & Crawcrook Albion on Tuesday in the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup first round.
