WE shared the news that Cumbrian athlete Simon Lawson claimed a top-ten finish in the New York City Marathon.

The Maryport star finished tenth in the men's wheelchair race with a time of one hour, 42 minutes and 27 seconds.

Lawson, 41, was the second fastest British athlete in the race behind seventh-placed Johnboy Smith, who finished in a time of 1:40:09.

It was Lawson's latest top-ten finish in the USA after his eighth-placed finish in the Chicago Marathon last month.

The west Cumbrian's latest outing on the international stage came in a race won by Switzerland's Marcel Hug in a time of 1:25:29.

He was followed by American Daniel Romanchuk and the Netherlands' Jetze Plat.
