Paul Simpson has urged Carlisle United to keep the promotion bandwagon rolling – with a fourth straight win this weekend.

The in-form Blues are back on the road when they head to Swindon Town on Saturday.

It is the latest chance for Simpson’s high-fliers to reinforce their place in the automatic promotion positions.

The trip to face the Robins starts a series of games which will mostly pit Carlisle against teams in the top half of League Two.

United’s boss says the Blues must continue to show the reasons why they have climbed to second place in the division.

“There are going to be many twists and turns for us all. We’ve just got to make sure that we’re the ones getting the positive results,” said Simpson.

“We have a really tough run of games coming, starting with [this weekend].

“We know it’s going to be difficult. Swindon are a good side – they got a point against [leaders] Leyton Orient last weekend, but it’s one we’re looking forward to.

“The next challenge is to make it four on the bounce.”

It United prevail in Wiltshire it will be their second run of four straight wins in recent months, the Blues having earlier defeated Newport County, Hartlepool United, Rochdale and Barrow in successive games in January.

Carlisle start this weekend in second place and are hoping to retain that position with third-placed Stevenage at home to Walsall on Saturday.

Other contenders in action include Northampton Town at struggling Hartlepool United, and Bradford City away to Newport County.

Carlisle’s wins over Colchester United, Crawley Town and Grimsby Town have kept them firmly in the automatic promotion running.

Simpson says attention to detail – as well as enjoying the position United are in – is all-important at this stage.

“When I got that call last February I didn’t know if I would be sitting here as the manager at this point anyway, but I certainly didn’t expect to be in second place at this stage,” he said. “We’ve got to make sure we enjoy it and stay there.

“All you can do is have a plan that you work to and that we stick to. That’s the same during the week and in the way we travel and what we do on a match day.

“We’ll just keep doing it. I’m not saying it’s a miracle plan, and we might not always get the results, but we’ll stick to it.

“We don’t get carried away when we’re winning and we don’t get too down when we’re losing, we just keep ticking them off.

“At the start of the season, 12 to go seems a hell of a long way off, but we’re there now. We talked about being in a good position with ten to go, and we’re certainly managing to get that for ourselves.

“We all have to stick together and keep pushing each other on. Who knows where it might take us?”
