Cumbrian Premier League prospect Joe White says he is loving life out on loan in League One.

The Carlisle-born Newcastle United midfielder is spending the second half of the season with Exeter City.

White has made four appearances for the Grecians so far.

And the 20-year-old says he has settled in well to Gary Caldwell’s Devon squad.

“I’m loving it so far,” said White.

“It’s been a really good start, on and off the pitch, settling into the place I’m living in.

“The lads have been great with me, and my performances I think have been strong so far.

“Long may it continue and hopefully we can keep improving.

“A strong start but, like always, we can get better – better results, better performances.”

White’s debut came as a sub in Exeter’s 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers.

Since then he has started their last three games, against Portsmouth, MK Dons and Charlton Athletic.

It is the second loan spell of his career, White having been with Hartlepool United last term.

The young Cumbrian - grandson of the late former Carlisle United player, coach and physio and Workington Reds manager Peter Hampton - also says it has helped having some familiar faces to help him bed in at Exeter, including former England Under-20 team-mate Jay Stansfield.

“I’ve known Stanno from England youth levels, and the gaffer from Newcastle – it’s only one or two people but it settles you in so much quicker than if you didn’t know anyone, and moving so far away, it helps massively,” he added in a club interview.

Another promising Cumbrian in League One, James Trafford, has been tipped to become Manchester City’s second-choice keeper.

Trafford is currently starring on loan with Bolton Wanderers and has kept 17 clean sheets so far this season.

That includes a club record eight in a row at home.

Manager Ian Evatt has said he expects Trafford, from Greysouthen, to return to Man City and challenge for a first-team squad place after his season-long loan with the Trotters.

Evatt, speaking to the Bolton News, confessed he is a big admirer of Trafford, and another deal for the former Carlisle academy kid next season may be beyond Bolton.

“We don’t know what division we are going to be in, number one, but we also don’t know what Manchester City’s plans are, although I understand that next season James will be number two at Manchester City, so we have plans in place to recruit and sign a new goalkeeper in the next window,” said Evatt.
