Paul Simpson says he shares the frustrations of Carlisle United fans at the late postponement at Bradford City.

Many of the Blues' big travelling support were either well on their way or already in west Yorkshire by the time the game was called off after a 12pm inspection.

A number of supporters have expressed their annoyance at the decision having not been made earlier.

United's staff had also arrived at Valley Parade by the time the inspection by referee Will Finnie was taking place.

Manager Simpson said he felt for the fans who had been left frustrated.

"What I will say is that we all really feel for the fans," said Simpson.

“With the timing of the postponement many of them will either have been here, or at least within shouting distance.

“Obviously it’s beyond the control of anyone at the club, we don’t get any input into when or how these decisions are made, and we can only say thank you to all of them for their efforts.

“They’re bound to be frustrated, and we share that frustration with them.”

Simpson told United's website that the "indication" on Friday was that the game would be on.

Freezing overnight temperatures, though, had left sections of the Bradford pitch unplayable.

"The pitch was borderline in too many areas so the referee had no choice," added United No2 Gavin Skelton.

“Obviously it’s not ideal for us, with us having travelled and arrived in Bradford, and with the players having their pre-match meal as the inspection was going on.

“There’s nothing we can do about it, it’s all about getting back and looking ahead to Tuesday night [the home game against Hartlepool United] now.”

Bradford, in a statement, said they "apologised for the inconvenience caused" by the postponement, adding that all tickets purchased for the game will be valid for the rearranged date, which will be confirmed in due course.

United were set to be backed by about 1,300 fans at Valley Parade.
