PAUL Simpson has backed goalkeeper Tomas Holy after his error in the Blues' FA Cup defeat against Walsall.

In the 88th minute, the Czech keeper misjudged the bounce of the ball and allowed Danny Williams to tap the Saddlers' equaliser into an open net.

Michael Flynn's side went on to knock Carlisle out of the Cup in the game's dying embers. However, after the result Paul Simpson has thrown his backing behind his 6ft 9in keeper.

He said: "After Monday it wasn't about speaking to him about the mistake, it was just about other things, it's about moving forward.

"We are talking about a goalkeeper who for 88 minutes was excellent in that game last weekend, he did everything that we could have asked of him and he's been very good over the season.

"I am delighted with where we are in the table, I'm pleased with the number of clean sheets we have got, so it's not all bad."

However, Simpson did concede that when a goalkeeper makes an error, it is going to attract more attention.

He said: "It's unfortunate for a goalkeeper when they make a mistake there is normally no comeback for them.

"Every single one of us made mistakes at Walsall last weekend, the sad thing is when it's a goalkeeper and you concede a goal everyone just wants to focus on that side of it."
