Former Carlisle United man Adam Murray has landed a new head coach job in National League North.

The ex-Blues midfielder has been appointed as the new boss of AFC Fylde.

Murray has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at the club having recently left Turkish club Besiktas.

He takes charge of a side who sit eighth in non-league's second tier.

Murray, 41, replaces James Rowe at the helm, following Rowe's departure from the club after he was charged with sexual assault - a charge he denied in court last week.

Murray, who played for Carlisle from 2005-6, has managed at Mansfield Town and Boston United as well as coaching at Barnsley, West Bromwich Albion, Port Vale and latterly with Besiktas under his former Barnsley and West Brom boss Valerian Ismael.

His first game in charge of Fylde will be against Gillingham in Tuesday's FA Cup first round replay.

Murray, speaking on Fylde's website, said: "I’m delighted to be here at AFC Fylde and working with a really good group of players.

“It’s a great challenge for myself and one that I am looking forward to.”

Executive vice chairman Phil Humphreys added of Murray: “His reputation, built on solid foundations, precedes him, and there is no doubt that we’ve made an appointment that is a perfect match for the club and for Adam."

Murray made 52 appearances for Carlisle and was part of two promotion seasons under Paul Simpson in the Conference in 2004/5 and League Two in 2005/6.

He is also a cup final goalscorer for United, Murray heading the Blues' consolation goal against Swansea City in the 2006 Football League Trophy final.

His squad at Fylde includes former Carlisle loan striker Mark Cullen.
